Since its inception, the Posse has required a certain amount of funds in order to carry out its general mission. In the beginning, regular members were charged dues. The monies that were collected helped to pay for members’ training and equipment. However, these funds were limited so members were still required to purchase much of their own equipment and pay for all their training. Over the years, the Posse began providing its services to selected organizations in return for payment in order to have more money available for training and equipment. These fund-raising events have changed over the years to the present day partnership between the Posse and the Oregon State University Athletic Department. The Posse now works the parking lot gates at OSU home football games and men’s basketball games, which not only provides a service to the Athletic Department, but is also the main fund-raiser for the Posse for the entire year. The Posse has been providing this service to the Athletic Department for more than two decades now and have gained themselves a reputation for being reliable and dependable.
In addition to parking the games, the Posse fingerprints non-criminals every Wednesday night at the Sheriff’s Office. This fingerprinting service is provided for individuals who need fingerprint cards for such things as concealed weapons permits, expungements, school district employment, elderly care employment, etc.
All funds raised from these events go toward purchasing new equipment, paying for members’ training, or are given as donations to local, non-profit, equine organizations such as 4H, the Children’s Farm Home Horse Program, and H.O.R.S.E.S.
